Germantown - After a group of challengers fell to incumbents in last spring's Village Board race in Germantown, only one incumbent faces opposition this year. Robert McMullin began the process of filing to run against Al Vanderheiden in District 3, but didn't complete the paperwork leaving Vanderheiden to run unopposed.
Terri Kaminski in District 1 and Daniel Wing in District 2 also will run without challengers.
District 4 is the only race for Village Board as incumbent Art Zabel faces John Hoell.
Trustees serve three-year terms and receive $5,500 annually for their work on the board.
School Board races
The fight for three Germantown School Board seats couldn't be more different from Village Board with contested races across the board. The field for Seat 1is now set after being delayed when incumbent Kim Fischer filed noncandidacy paperwork near the 5 p.m. Jan. 3 deadline.
By law, another 72-hour window must be provided for people to file paperwork. Christina Wolf-Lang and Sarah Larson had already submitted paperwork to run for Seat 1 and Lisa Laskowski filed during the extension window.
Both Larson and Wolf-Lang are from Germantown and Larson is a regular at School Board meetings. Laskowski is from Colgate.
A primary will be needed Feb. 21 to trim the field to two.
There is no incumbent in Seat 6 where interim member Cari Brust will not run. Michael Loth and Gregory Anderson, both from Germantown, will battle for the 1-year term in Seat 6. The winner of that race will have to run again next year.
Tom Bowe faces Tom Barney in a battle for Seat 7. Bowe is the incumbent in the race and Barney made an unsuccessful run for Germantown Village Board last year. Barney, a Germantown resident, regularly spoke at School Board meetings during the budget and insurance change processes.
School Board members are paid $4,000 a year and serve three-year terms.
The general election is April 3.

Sarah Larson has no educational experience yet she wants to over see a school district? Sarah wants you to believe our district is broken yet offers no explanation as to why our schools are regularly recognized nationally for it's accomplishments? After reading "District Issues" on Sarah's website it is evident her only concern is to further her own personal political ideology by fixing something that clearly is not broke. With out any common sense or good reason Sarah would force our tax dollars to follow a short lived law that will only expose our school district to expensive lawsuits which in turn would eliminate any savings ACT 10 would create in the first place! If you want the best eduction for our kids then you must secure the best instructors...This is not MPS, the quality of education that the Germantown School District provides to it's students opens doors to a quality of life other students would love to have access to...by introducing failed partisan politics Sarah will only harm our schools and as such we are better off without her divisive agenda.

Germantown voters and taxpayers. The races for Village Board and School Board are important to you pocketbook, quality of life and to how you want your children taught. It's time to pay attention to who is running, that candidates views and qualifications. National politics get all the attention, but local government affects you directly. Vote and when you do, do it intelligently.
