Falls village officials agree to swap land with school district

Sunnyside parcel could be future location for fire station

Feb. 21, 2012 | 0 comments

Menomonee Falls - The Menomonee Falls Village Board approved a land swap and building exchange with the school district which would net the village a site for a future fire station.

A month ago, the board approved a change in the land uses for the land and building on McArthur Drive behind the library. That space used to be used by the Parks Department for storage, the likely use for it by the school district.

As part of the swap, the village will also get the Sunnyside property on the corner of Menomonee Avenue and Main Street. Village Manager Mark Fitzgerald said down the road, that site will likely become a fire station used to serve the northwest side of the village.

There will be some tweaks to the agreement surrounding Trenary Field as well, something already agreed upon as part of the Trenary complex renovations several years ago. The district will take over most of the maintenance of the field, as well as the concession stands and bleachers.

A 25-year lease is part of the approved changes. While there are lease agreements as part of this swap, no cash will change hands now or over the course of the lease.

The School Board is scheduled to vote on the land swap at its meeting Monday.
